Idioms 2

The promised land: a place that offers a lot of good opportunities.
Ex: America was the promised land for many immigrant families.

threshold:
to be on the threshold of doing something: to be likely to do something soon
Ex: Our class are on the thresold of taking the twelve exams which are totally terrible.

flesh and blood:
1. human
Ex: Many of the cartoon characters are more popular than their flesh and blood counterparts. (counterpart: a duplicate copy)
2. If you say that someone is flesh and blood, you mean that they have feelings or faults that are natural because they are human.
Ex: That man may be a priest, but he isn't immune to pretty woman. He's only flesh and blood after all.
(priest: thầy tu; to be immune: miễn nhiễm, miễn dịch)
3. relative: to be somebody's (own) flesh and blood (ruột rà máu mủ)
Ex: How can you be so cruel to him when he's your own flesh and blood?
